Learn today, be a star of tomorrow!
This term our topic is:
How Old Are The Trees Around Us?
In Year 2 this half-term, we will be exploring the question 'How old are the trees around us?'
During our Science focussed topic, we will be focussing on the following questions:
Why are trees so important to our environment? How long do trees live and how can we tell how old they are? What are the seeds of trees like? Which animals would we find living in or around the trees in the woodland? Which flowering plants would we most likely find in the woodlands?
We will be reading story 'Little Evie in the Wild Wood' by Jackie Morris.
In RE we will learning more about different Jewish and Christian stories and our SCARF PSHE focus is 'Growing and Changing'. The British Values for June and July are forgiveness and happiness and we will be having assemblies dedicated to each value.
Remember to check Class Dojo regularly for updates, photos and information.
We hope that your child enjoys being in our Year 2 Goldfinches class!

Reading is an essential part of your child's learning. Your child will be sent home with a colour banded book to match their ability. They will have a guided reading session every week, which will include shared reading, and accompanying tasks. Please take time to look at and read your child's reading books and any other books, with them. When you have read with your child please record this in their reading record. If a child reads 3 or more times at home each week, they will be entered into our 'In It, To Win It' draw to be in with a chance of choosing a golden envelope to win a prize!
The children continue to have access to Bug Club online, where reading books will be allocated to each child. When they access the books there will be short tasks which they need to complete in order to win points. The more points they win the more time they get to spend it in the shop.
P.E. will take place on a Thursday. Please ensure that your child comes to school on this day in their P.E. kit. They will stay in their P.E. kit all day and where possible, P.E. will take place outside so please make sure children are dressed to keep warm. Please also remember that children need to have their hair up in a pony-tail and to remove earrings and other jewellery for P.E. If your child has newly pierced ears please pop in to the office to fill in the appropriate form.
Could we ask that you help your child practise their spellings, which will be checked weekly. We expect your child to begin to use these words in their writing. Spellings can be practised in different ways such as writing them out using paint, or in sand or practising them with magnetic letters or making a game up with them. You can also look out for them when reading and when you’re out and about!
Please can you encourage your child to learn their times tables and their inverses at home. They have all received a log in for Times Tables Rock Stars and you will find this in their Reading Records.
Please log on to https://play.ttrockstars.com/auth to access their personal page.
