Brinsley Primary and Nursery School – Year 4

Welcome to Year 4, Wren Class.

 

During Autumn 1 we have a geography focus and are learning about rivers.

We will have 2 visits from Severn Trent, to learn more about the water cycle and how to save water.

In Maths we are learning about place value and addition and subtraction.

Our text in English is The Wind in the Willows. We are writing a poem about rivers, a diary entry and creating a tourist leaflet for a cruise on the River Thames.

We are learning about online safety in computing and are developing our drawing skills in art.

In Spanish we are counting to 30 and in PE we are doing dance and circuits.

 Spellings are given out every Monday and are tested the following Monday. Children will record their results in their spelling books so that you can see their score.

PE is on Mondays and Thursdays. Please send your child into school in their Brinsley PE kit (black shorts/joggers, plain white t-shirt and plain black jumper/hoodie.

Every week we take part in a whole school reading challenge. Please read with your child at least 3 times per week, and sign their reading diary. By Year 4, we realise that some children prefer to read by themselves, but please encourage them to chat about what they are reading to check their understanding.

In the summer term of Year 4, there is a government times table check. We will be working on this in class, but any extra practice at home would also help. Children have a login for Times Table Rock Stars (TTRS), which they can use out of school.
